Fresno Bee Reports on AKA Fresno's Grand Opening

Fresnobee.com Reports: "Fresno's fascination with mixed martial arts appears to be growing with the opening of American Kickboxing Academy Fresno, a new fitness gym specializing in the sport.

AKA Fresno, at 3069 W. Bullard Ave., is being launched by MMA fighter Josh Koscheck and Jason Craft, a Wall Street stockbroker and former collegiate wrestler.

The two men met through mutual friend DeWayne Zinkin, who manages Koscheck and other MMA fighters.

"This is something we have been talking about for some time, and as Josh's name grew in popularity, we knew this would be a good time to do this," Zinkin said.

The new 6,000-square-foot gym will provide training in specialities including Brazilian jiu-jitsu, mixed martial arts, kickboxing, muay thai, boxing and children's wrestling and mixed martial arts.

AKA Fresno is one of three AKA gyms in the U.S.; the original is in San Jose.

Craft, who wrestled at the University of Nebraska, is excited about the new venture. He recently relocated from New York to Fresno to run the gym.

"I was really looking for a change of pace in my life, and because I'm very passionate about wrestling and coaching," Craft said. "This gives me the opportunity to do that."

While AKA Fresno has an MMA influence, Craft said the gym is open to anyone interested in fitness and staying in shape."
